Questions people actually ask

Short answers first. Everything here describes the app as it ships today.

Is Thruster free?

Yes. The timer, the logbook and your goals are free and stay free, with no cap on how much you log.

The free tier also includes the full benchmark and movement library, the plate calculator, ninety days of charts and three AI form checks a week. Thruster Pro — free for seven days on every new account — is what pays for the AI: the coach, the warm-ups, whiteboard scanning, training plans, and your entire history in the charts.

Which timer formats does Thruster support?

For Time, AMRAP, EMOM and E2MOM, Tabata, custom intervals and rest. Splits are one tap, and every format can be started straight from a benchmark workout or from a session the coach wrote.

Does the timer stay accurate with the screen off?

Yes. Thruster reads the device clock rather than counting ticks, so a 20-minute AMRAP is twenty minutes even with the screen off and the phone face down on the floor.

Audio cues play on the alarm channel rather than the media channel, so you hear the round call over whatever is playing in the gym.

Does Thruster work without an internet connection?

The timer does, completely. It needs nothing but the device clock, and the voice cues are stored on the device after the first time you hear them. Saving a result to your logbook needs a connection, and so does anything the AI does.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes, and it is included — there is nothing extra to buy. For Time, AMRAP, EMOM and Tabata start from the watch, every round buzzes on your wrist, your heart rate shows on the face, and the session is saved to Health so it counts towards your rings. The phone can stay in your bag.

Does Thruster track strength work and lifts?

Yes. Sets, reps and RPE, with an estimated one-rep max calculated from any set you log — not only from the days you actually max out.

Those maxes are also what the coach uses to put real numbers on a barbell, and what a lift goal measures progress against.

Is Thruster only for CrossFit?

No. It covers seventeen ways to train: MetCon, gym strength, HIIT, calisthenics, running, mobility, weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman, kettlebell, Hyrox, rowing, cycling, swimming, boxing, yoga and bodybuilding. Each one has its own goals, its own kit and its own session formats.

The timer is the same whatever you are training — a Tabata is a Tabata — but the goals you can set, the equipment it assumes and the shape of the sessions it writes all change with the type.

What does the AI coach actually do?

It writes one session at a time, for the time and equipment you have today, and tells you which of your goals it moves. What makes it different from a workout generator is what it reads first: your one-rep maxes, so the loads are real numbers; your last five sessions with their scores and RPE; and how often you go Rx on each movement, so it programs the thing you keep scaling instead of avoiding it.

It will not claim a link it does not have. On a deload week, or a day when nothing you are chasing was trainable with the time and kit you had, the line naming the goal is simply absent.

Can Thruster read my gym's whiteboard?

Yes. Photograph the board and you get a structured workout, a timer set up for it and a log entry. It shows you what it read before saving anything, and tells you where it was unsure. The photo is deleted from your phone before the request finishes.

What is AI form check?

Film a set from the side, up to a minute, no sound needed. The AI names the fault, says where in the rep it happens and why it matters, and gives you a drill that corrects it.

Which languages does Thruster speak?

Seven: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Hebrew. That includes the movement names, the benchmark descriptions and everything the coach writes — not just the buttons.

How is Thruster different from the app my gym uses, or a plain interval timer?

It is built for you rather than for a gym. An app your box gives you exists to publish the class workout and show the class leaderboard, so your history belongs to that gym; Thruster works whether or not your gym uses anything, and your logbook follows you if you move. A plain interval timer gets the clock right and stops there — nothing is written down, so nothing can be compared. And an AI workout generator knows only your available time and equipment, where Thruster's coach also reads the logbook.

You can still train with your gym inside Thruster: join a box with a code and you get a leaderboard per workout for the people you actually train with. What you substituted, and what you are chasing, stays in your own logbook.

Is it safe to train from workouts an AI wrote?

Treat them as a suggestion from someone who cannot see you. Every AI-written session in the app carries a line saying so: it is written from what you have logged, it cannot watch you train, and you should scale the loads to what you can actually do that day and stop if something hurts. Training is exercise, none of it is medical advice, and you should talk to a doctor before starting a new programme.
